Kilims are smooth, flat-woven rugs without pile, similar to Navajo rugs. Also known as "gelim" in Persia or "durrie" in India, they're typically made entirely of wool. Kilims have been woven in all major rug-producing countries and tend to have a more graphic, informal look. They often retain traditional designs since they weren't woven for export. While they may not be as durable as Knotted Pile (lasting around 25 to 35 years vs 60-90 for hand-knotted pile), they're a more affordable option.
