KNOTTED PILE

Hand-knotted rugs are the type most associated with Oriental rugs. Tufts of wool (or silk) are individually wrapped around one or two warps to create a plush pile. They're held in place by ground wefts. This labor-intensive process, also known as hand-knotted pile, produces renownedly durable and long-lasting carpets. It differs from inferior methods like hooked or tufted rugs, where tufts are poked into existing fabric and held with glue. Hand-knotted rugs are crafted to last generations.
