The Turkmen are an ethno-linguistic group speaking a Turkic language, originally from what is now Turkmenistan, northeastern Iran, and north Afghanistan, with some in Pakistan and east Iran. In the 19th century, they comprised tribes like the Salor, Tekke, Saryk, Ersari, Yomut, Chodor, and Kizil Ayak. Renowned for their weaving skills, some believe the Turkmen may have originated the technique of pile weaving.
