The Kurdish people inhabit a mountainous region of Southwest Asia, spanning parts of Iraq, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Armenia, and Lebanon. They speak Kurdish, an Indo-European language, and comprise one of the world's largest ethnic groups without their own country (25-27 million). While many live in modern Middle Eastern nations, they differ distinctively from Arabs, Turks, Assyrians, Armenians, and Persians. Kurdish weaving is richly varied, encompassing flatweaves, nomadic and village pieces, and intricate workshop carpets.
